well, actually i have to be careful with this statement as i haven’t my passed my german oral diploma exam yet (which will be next monday) – but – i’m an optimist so i post today.
after six months at daimler-chrysler research in ulm i say goodbye to the great time as a student and start working in an upcoming company in stuttgart on march 1st.
maybe it’ll be a good chance to stay for more than six months in the same city ;-)
while applying for a job the business network platform openbc was quite a helpful tool – if you’ve not already been registered, take a look. i can really recommend it.

today textpattern 4.0 has been released – dunno if v4.0 after v1.0rc5 is just a joke or serious stuff ;-) i’ll test it and ket you know…

with the day i’ve finished my diploma thesis at the end auf august concurrently my time in the northern hemisphere of germany will be finished. luckily i found a job at daimler-chrysler research in ulm for the next 6 months. time to face the reality of flat leases – bremerhaven: 130 euro/month, ulm: 400 euro/month (equivalent size and accoutrement).
to sum it up finally, though i’m not a fan of the northern german landscape (i need mountains and forests *g) awi is a great place to work at: nice colleagues, modern offices, great internet connection and enough freedom to achieve project aims with the personal work style. never say never – maybe next year i’ll be back at the double-watergate where one of the awi buildings is placed…

textpattern 1.0rc5 has been released yesterday. as far as i could consider during some quick steps through the backend there were some really useful updates.
- in the sections setup there is now a setting for the default section after the first page load (i applied a small hack to achieve this before)
- at the bottom there is now an additional drop down box with the admin menu to access each location quickly
- heaps of new options in the admin menu
it seems like textpattern 1.0 is like a good whiskey – the longer it takes until the day of its release the better it gets. as i said before – give it a try ;-)

christmas time: after a long delay dean “santa claus” allen now offers textpattern in v1.0rc3. as he sais in the textpattern forum one of the reasons for the long waiting period are the two new developers in the textpattern team: pedro palazon and alex shields (allen: “both are gifted codeslingers bursting with ambitious ideas and clever solutions, and i’m truly grateful to have them on board”).
update: now i spent some minutes with upgrading this page and with playing around in the new options and i have to say a big thanx to dean and his team!
- file uploads are now integrated
- no more placeholder files for sections
- new uri settings for articles
- lots of minor “nice to have” features in the backend
- ...

this great journalistic weblog has a second look on the biggest german newspaper and gives lots of examples why you should not make up your mind by reading only this ‘newspaper’...
